Vancouver 86ers (1987-92)

Another charter member from 87, they were founded the previous year (hence the name). The 86ers would play out of Swangard Stadium and be the most successful team in the league.

Under coach/player Bob Lenarduzzi they would go 46 competitive games unbeaten as well as win four straight CSL Championships (1988–1991) and five consecutive CSL regular-season first-place finishes (1988–92). In 1990 they would win the North American Club Championship beating the Maryland Bays. 

The squad would include the likes of Pat Onstad, Bob Lenarduzzi, Jamie Lowery, Dominic Mobilio, Carl Valentine, John Catlif, Ivor Evans, Dale Mitchell, Paul Dolan and Norm Odinga.



Vancouver's inaugural season and one of the few seasons that Vancouver didnt dominate in almost everything. They placed second in their group with 21 points, Calgary having 27. They played Calgary in the semi finals and lost 4-3.

Their jersey was made by Umbro. Home was yellow with red trim on the v neck collar, shoulders and sleeves. Away was same style shirt but blue with yellow trim. Sponsors in badge form were Pepsi and safeway grocery stores.


86ers 1987 Highlights



Their second season Vancouver dominated both their division table, scoring 48 points (21 wins, 6 draws and 1 loss). Theyd skip to the semifinals where they met Winnipeg, who they beat 3-1. Theyd meet Hamilton, their closest challenger (who got 41 points in the eastern division), in the finals. It would be Vancouvers first CSL title.

Their jersey was made by Umbro. The Home was yellow with blue trim and a manderin collar. Away was blue with yellow trim and a mandarin collar. Sponsors in badge form were Pepsi and safeway grocery stores.

Vancouver dominated their division, amassing 40 points, John Catlif scoring 19 season goals. Next runners up were Edmonton with 31. They played and beat North York in the quarter finals, 4-0 over two legs, they then played division rivals VIctoria who they beat 3-2 over two legs. 86ers met the Steelers again in the finals. Hamilton would lose 6-1 to Vancouver. 

86ers were with Umbro again, same design as previous season. Yellow home with red trim, blue away with yellow trim. This time polo collars replaced the mandarin collars from the previous season. Sponsors in badge form were Pepsi and safeway grocery stores.



86ers ran away with the league that season, scoring 64 points, runners up Blizzard with 48. 86ers met Hamilton in the semi finals, where they bested them 2-1. They would play the runners up Toronto in the finals, winning 5-3.

Umbro made the jerseys that year, home and away colors remained the same. Fractal designs sublimated on the jerseys. Sponsors in badge form were Pepsi and safeway grocery stores. On the arms of home were Labatts Blue, on away there was CKNW/98.

The league was again one table, which Vancouver dominated, earning 36 points. They would play and beat Montreal in the play offs, 2-1 and lose to Winnipeg in the final CSL final, 3-1

Their jersey was made by Umbro, home was yellow with multi color confetti like designs in the fabric, away was blue with multicolor designs in the fabric.
